Lords started producing wines in 2006. The first bottles to go on the market were Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was well received and was sold out by the end of the season.
Since then three further varieties have been added, two red and two white – Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay (barrel-fermented) and Chardonnay (un-wooded). The red wines have been wooded for 12/15 months in French Oak barrels and the Chardonnay was fermented in French Oak barrels for five months before bottling.
In 2009 we made a desert wine using sun-baked Nouvelle grapes. Since its introduction (late 2009) it has proved to be very popular.
All the wines can now be tasted at, and purchased from, the Cellar. Please telephone ahead to avoid disappointment.
Our wines have been submitted to several prestigious wine awards. In 2008 and 2009, our wines received accreditation in three national and international awards. Particularly pleasing was the Silver award
for the Pinot Noir. Wine from this grape is not made in large quantities in South Africa because it is known to be a particularly ‘difficult’ cultivar to grow. However, the geographical location and terroir of Lords make it ideally suited for growing the Pinot Noir grape so to gain recognition in its first season was particularly pleasing.
